The Master
Liu Yuwei
Master Liu Yuwei was born in Zhejiang, in Southern China under the Chinese zodiac sign of the monkey. Since when he was a child, he has always been attracted by anything involving martial arts; at the age of six, he started at school his first lessons of kung fu, which was also called Guochu (People's art). As he was not satisfied with the few practice hours at school and as he lived too far from martial arts school, young Liu spent his whole afternoon training in hometown parks, observing and learning from street Masters.
Even though his family moved to Italy, his passion for martial arts did not decrease: he trained hard during the year and in the summertime, he came back to China to attend updating and specialising courses. His moving to Italy allowed him to attend Western gyms as well as to get to know and practice non-Chinese martial arts.
He can be considered as an expert in the Kung fu art of the Shaolin monastery - a monastery set in Northern China (Henan province), where there is the Songsan mountain called "SHAO LIN SHI".
He practices and teaches Sandà, the Chinese kickboxing, Qinna, a set of joint lock techniques and elaborated the art of Fan Shen Shu, the street self-defence art, which is becoming more and more popular. Further to external styles, he deepened the study and practice of internal styles, becoming an expert in TAIJIQUAN: taiji kungfu, Shaolin qigong: interior energy art of Shaolin, Yan Shen Qigong: art of long life. He fulfilled his study and practice of Tuina, the ancient Chinese art of massage, a technique originating all the types of massage e.g. finger-pressure, Shiatsu, energy massage (reiki, pranotherapy) and all the aesthetical and sports massage. He was appointed as disciple by grand Master Lian yiquan, highest rank shaolin monk and one of the 10 most important masters in China, headmaster of the 8000-student Shaolin Epo Wushu College. Given the rank and name of Monk warrior Duwei in the ceremony, Master Liu's task is to widespread Shaolin arts into the world.
At present Master Liu is the martial arts responsible for the cultural association "Italia Cina" in Friuli Venezia Giulia; he is collaborating with F.I.W.S.(the Italian Wushu Sanda Federation) and is the only representative of Shaolin College in Italy. He worked with the police and bodyguards, giving lessons of self-defence and grappling techniques (qinna) which are employed by Chinese police. He teaches in martial arts training periods throughout Italy and he is usually invited to held conferences concerning the importance of well-being and the relationship between body and mind.
