TUINA

Tuina therapy originates from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); the ancient and famous physician Pian Que, employed massages to treat diseases. According to an ancient catalogue, the first monograph on manipulation was the written work "Ten Chapters on massage" by Huangdi and Qibo. Later on, Sui dynasty (581-618) regarded manipulation as a special subject. In their monograph "Aetiology and symptomatology of diseases", Chao Yuanfang and Sun Simiao (581-682) provided different manipulation methods.

In its work "A thousand precious remedies", Tang dynasty quoted Laozi and Bodhidharma's methods. The word Tuina is a compound word which literally means "TUI" "pull" and "NA" "grasp".

Originally, massage was called Amno, while Tuina referred to child massage.

Nowadays Tuina massage is spread in Chinese hospitals and it is identified indistinctly under the name "Tuina" or "Amno". Tuina function is to act therapeutically through manipulation principles on precise areas or points of the patient's body in order to get them to fight and to perform directly to erase the reason for dysfunction, thus improving balance.

When the body is unquiet, the channels or meridians are blocked; as a result of this, the body loses sensation and has to be dealt with in order to promote the correct balance between Yin and Yang energies.
